There is a craving

naturememoryidentitymortality

There is a craving

For excitement

School is not cool

Geeks are freaks,

Predictability is boring

When in truth

Without it we would

Descend into chaos

A slough of madness

Mathematics and science

The forgotten art.

Humanity over

Before the start.

Extreme sports

The ultimate high

You have never lived

Until you try

A free fall

A deep sea dive

Ran a marathon.

Only the risk

Is proof of life.

But all risk is measured

A skill to be treasured

And so rare

To be in control of

All the variables

For even one moment.

Things do go wrong

And they will.

Before long

Luck runs out

We face moments of doubt.

When the body ails

And health fails

It is then

We have little control

Of an outcome

Other than how we feel

About it.

And that is a fear

We try not

To reveal

For in our search for

The ultimate rush

We fool ourselves

With a well constructed

But erroneous belief

We can never be touched

Until one day it happens

And surprise surprise

At the very end

Even the strong man cries

And everyone dies.
