A window uncovered
A window uncovered
Exposed to the night
A darkened tunnel
Reaching to the sky
Where a billion stars fly
Higher and higher
Pulling further away
With every passing day
But for light pollution,
There would be even more to see.
High-intensity living
Too many people afraid of the dark
Sitting in shadow
Dreaming of flight
Widows and widowers
Waking from nightmares
Fumbling in the cutlery drawer
Undecided on suicide
Or a cup of tea.
Somebody hid all the knives
It was a fantasy
Embedded in delusion
When the house you thought was home
Resembled a prison
In a gothic story
A gory hammer horror
A nightmare with its roots in an imperfect reality
Entangled in theory
Tying the best of us in knots
As different faces overlap
In familiar places,
With unusual contexts
Subdivided into a series
Of tableaus
Presented in the wrong order.
Every dream seems to exist
As an interdependent stream
Pulled this way and that
By the proximity
Of a full moon
With its luminescent
Sad-mad pasty face
Framed in a window
Hanging on the wall
Seeking asylum
In a suspension of disbelief.
