There is something about rain
lossgriefnaturecitymusicmemory
There is something about rain
Much as autumn is a return to earth
And spring about rebirth
Rainfall is full of renewal
The dead skin peeled,
Revealing the new clean layer
Lying beneath the surface.
The flesh stripped bare
Dust and dirt washed away
Ragged bones exposed.
An unholy mix of mud and blood
Old mistakes soaked in memory
Drained of truth and context
Flushed as a flood of godly tears
Tearing through the night
Clearing out the debris
Collecting sorrow
Gathering the remains of yesterday
Exhuming the detritus of past lives
Exposing root and branch
To the first light of day.
New shoots come out to play
When rainfall stops,
Renewal soon begins
Flood plains are rebirthed
Greenfields and farmland returned,
Just as intended.
