There is such curiosity
There is such curiosity
It abounds in the extreme
Of living dangerously
When so much of life is left to chance
Futureproofing is a random act of kindness
Gifted upon the dying, barely realised
Until the moment of departure.
As death stalks darkened halls looking for its moment
To intercede
Dreams end in broken promises
The nights are as long as shadows
Bound to the objects of their desire
Even as the best of us lie slaughtered.
Cut down in our prime
Sacrificed in the vain hope
That there will be a cleansing, in the pruning
Nothing good has come of it,
The soil is as wet
As a muddy grave
A plagued trench
Soaked in the sweat and blood
Of good men as well as bad.
A ship, full of clowns, runs aground
Even as the storm blows, unabated
And the world dies
In a constancy
Of endless disharmony,
Show me how
To barter for a different ending
Where life need not be quite so grievously
Misspent on the living.
Those poor souls are as nearly dead as unborn,
Spark my interest in survival
Grant to me a revival
Free of unspent dreams
Liberate the restless spirit
It can bring about a great escape
And take the whole world with it.
