Though you cry, the pain
lossmusicmemorytimeidentitymortality
Though you cry, the pain
Plain to see.
The terror in your eyes,
The fear, unspoken.
When words
Are not enough
Meaning,
Is in the silence
Suspended, invisible,
As the air
Surrounding us.
Breathing feels
Like drowning.
The only respite
Is in the touch,
So familiar.
Softness of skin
Hot with fever,
Slick with sweat.
The shiver
Of recollection.
The memory,
Of before.
When everything
Was easy.
Living was incidental.
We were caught up
In humorous interludes,
Pleasing negotiation.
With little real effort.
One day followed the next.
As if we had forever.
Fear of tomorrow
Did not exist.
Today was all.
An eternity spent with you,
All that mattered.
Now fear of loss,
Time foreshortened,
Is too great a burden
To carry.
The weight of it,
Squeezes the
Life out of me.
