Victorian philanthropy

In the 21st Century

Is that a way to create change

Tell me lies

It is what you are good at

Manufacturing alibis

To win the peace

The truth

Would catch in the throat

So much is done

By so few

To benefit the many

We should be grateful

For the patronage

Of the five percent

When the proportion

Of your wealth

After tax

Is greater than

95 percent of the

Rest of the world

Get the banner, unfurled

It is not charity we need

But equality

Of opportunity

With hard working people

Unable to pay the bills

Buy a home

Afford good health care

Sleep under a dry roof

Not whingers

Miscreants

Or welfare dodgers

But blue collar workers

Who keep the four estates

Running smoothly

Take them for granted

Fill their heads with

Mindless drivel

About chasing the dream

Use an advertising team

To sell the message

You build it

And they will come

It is how

The west was won

Before electricity

Was too expensive

To use every day

And rickets made a come back

But hey

Are you alright Jack

Take advantage

Of another

Photo opportunity

Not a selfie

You have someone

Else to do that

Common people

Like me

Are ten a penny

If you misuse one

Never worry

Another will be along

In a minute

And for you the gravy train

Will carry on

Running

It seems

It will never stop

Unless we use an axe

Chop chop chop.
