Walls are only as strong
Walls are only as strong
As the mortar used
To hold the bricks in place.
Get the mixture wrong
And before too long,
It all falls down.
Door locks break, eventually.
Keeping you in,
Or out.
It makes you want to shout
When even a locksmith
Cannot open it
From the outside.
And as he climbs over
The poorly built wall
He dislodges bricks,
And is hurt in the fall.
But you do not care
You should not be there
At all.
You were going out
To lunch,
With a wonderful bunch
And now,
To make matters worse,
You have missed it.
After several hours
And more than one curse,
They push a bunch of flowers,
And a doggy bag
Through the letter box,
The man has gone
To buy some new locks.
And you are still trapped,
No matter how hard
The door is rapped.
You try not to be rude
But can’t really face food,
And resolve to leave it for later,
When you feel more secure,
And have found a cure,
For an over reliance on
Tradesmen.
