We saw shooting stars

naturetimelovemortality

We saw shooting stars

Piercing the sky

More passionate than

New Years Eve over the London Eye

A cold night in April

A brutal month for some apparently

You were well wrapped,

Would have stayed up all night

Calling out for the children

To come and look

But they had long since flown

Forever in your heart

As if they were still gathered

Around the table

For a family conversation

A mindful way to face the day

If only problems were as easily

Dissipated

As a meteorite

Crashing down to earth

Failing to feel the burn

As a condition of growth

Surviving pain will not always

Make us stronger

Every day the fight gets harder

Your eyes would glow when you were happy

I could feel it in my heart

There was a sense of wonder

Every time something new

Came your way

Paint it out

Put it on canvas

There is only this moment

Capture it before its essence

Melts into the backdrop

Lay me gently down

Beneath an immense sky

Filled with splendid stars

Let me gaze upon them

Lay with me

It will be an endless paradise

You smiled as you spoke

Your eyes filled with tears

Mine too

You saw much more

Than would ever be revealed to me

Is it any wonder

I am left trailing in your wake

As the comet flies

We see only its tail

A distant plume

Burning through the night sky

Watching it together

I am no wiser a man

Than ever I was

But there is a moment

Of contentment

In the connection

Forged between us

Something wonderful

Fell to earth

For no other reason

Than to give added meaning

To what otherwise would have been

An ice-cold evening

In the ides of brutal April.
