Were we but strangers

naturecitymusictime

Were we but strangers

Passing on the stairs

Jostling shoulder to shoulder

On an escalator

Waiting for an elevator

Standing at a bar

Did we touch

Share a smile

Did our eyes meet

In reflection

On the far side of a window

Walking in the street

Waiting for a coffee

Shuffling in the queue

To board a train

Minding the gap

Running for a cab

Wet through

Shaking an umbrella

Seeking shelter

From the rain

In a cafe doorway

Taking care

To give one another space

Barely looking

At each other’s face

How could we not know

When I would

Know you anywhere
