What did you do

naturemusicpoliticsmemorytimelove

What did you do

In the cold war

Daddy-o

After the service announcements

Showed us how to survive

A nuclear attack

Closing doors

Hiding under the table

Until the all clear

Baby it’s hot outside

There are no missiles here

We were all Berliners

Walking on the moon

Gary Cooper at high noon

Steve McQueen

In Great Escape

Superman in a cape

Young Americans

Winning the culture war

Without subtitles

Everybody speaking English

Even in private

There are no pirates

In Penzance

No heroes in Napalm

No fellowship

In a franchise

Only Star wars

Fighting for their name

Above the title

Believe in Zimmerman

Not Weinstien

Duck under the covers

Listen to The Beatles

Instead of Elvis

There is something

Of a revolution in the air

Because the night

Is meant for lovers

Of a certain age

And once upon a time

We all wanted to be

Young Americans

Holding on

To what we thought

The world should be

In our salad days

Before the phoney peace

Broke out

On a small planet

In a galaxy

Far far away.
