What of godliness

naturemusicmemory

What of godliness

When the act of washing

Is ritualised cleansing

The dirty work

Left to others

Less worthy.

Is there any good

In stripping away

The proof of labour

The honesty of hard work

The salting of the earth

What is left of humanity

Once the sweat of toil

Is rinsed off

The drain of responsibility

The sins of the ungodly

Purged with a brief

Submersion

How can we be clean

When we divert

Our eyes from dirt

As untouchable

Leftovers

Are swept away

Beneath a thin carpet

Of topsoil
