What of torch songs?

lossnaturemusicmemorytimelove

What of torch songs?

The ones they used to write

To help you fall in love

And cope with losing.

Songs with an instant hook

That pulled you in

And now all too easily

Take you back,

Through those years.

Words,

That bring a tear to the eye.

One of sadness

Two for joy

And many more

For the lost times,

And the boy

You used to know.

He burns now,

Even brighter,

As the sunlight

In your sky,

And will forever

Be a song of yesterday.

What became of those

Sounds that opened the

Passageway

To your heart.

The story boards,

And melodies

That doth make, and break you.

What happened to those

Summers

When we picnicked by the lake,

Lay a blanket down,

Dreamed of distant islands,

Of journeys we might take.

When the western sky

Was a glimpse of paradise

And seemed so far away.

But now, those dreams

Are borne in memory,

The future never lasts,

When you hear the old songs

The die is poured and cast,

All we have

Is what we hold,

But lost is never gone,

The future now is past.

And if what might be

Is what is true,

And I am me,

To you,

Then we know

In different ways

What happened to those days.
