When we were kids
When we were kids
We were fools
To believe
Beautiful movie
People were real.
Making love
On a riverbank
Rolling in the mud
Towing flat-bottomed boats
Plodging knee deep
Through reeds
As sharp as blades
With nary a scratch.
Washed up on some
Desert island
Flashing white teeth at each other
First thing in the morning
Before the invention of
Toothpaste and mouthwash.
When we got covered
In bites
And dog mess.
Mosquitoes
Love a bare arse.
Every blade of grass
Carries an ant
We stood in cowpats
Scratched our ankles
On corn stalks
Angry
Birds left a deposit
On sunburned shoulders.
And yet,
We dreamed of
Floating naked
In clear water
Making love on white sand
Regardless
Painless
Salt-kissed
Spread-eagled
In full sun.
Constructing memories
That may never have happened
But were,
Nevertheless
The best days of our lives.
