Why did I listen to your

lossnaturepoliticstimeloveidentity

Why did I listen to your

Whispered appeal,

So calm and inviting

In appearance,

I lowered my guard

To your advances,

The gentle ebb and flow,

Hypnotic.

And lulled by a promise

Of safe passage,

A tranquil guise

Masking your depth

Of purpose,

I was carried away.

Buoyed by charm and subtlety,

Slipping easily

Into the silken softness

Of your embrace.

Delivered unto you

My fevered imaginings cooled,

It was easy to yield,

To give myself over,

Trust in your power,

Float in splendid isolation,

A peaceful sojourn,

Under a silent sky.

But it was a lie.

Drifting in the shallows,

Smuggled beneath

A shifting tidal flow,

Lay the true depth

Of your contempt.

I am to be spat out,

Disgorged

Broken and used.

Naive dreams dashed,

A life so easily cast away.

Another victim

With an empty purse,

A lost survivor

An old world’s curse.

Jettisoned

Without mercy

Drowned

In the rhetoric

Of the damned.
