You were there

lossnaturecitypoliticstimemortality

You were there

In the fresh warmth of a shower

The clean cotton smell of a newly made bed

The first cup of coffee, almost black

Richly flavoured

The taste of salt on the wind

Walking along the foreshore

The skitter of Rosellas’ in the Plain Trees

The chatter of Minor birds, never short of conversation

The gentle swell of the ocean

A myriad patination of deep greens

Overlaid in blue-tinted aquamarine

As the sun slowly lifted its crown of gold

Above a distant headland

Which seemed to burn with ethereal light,

An early morning splendour

To enhance the experience of another day.

You were there

As the Humpback jumped clean out of the water

Children shouted in surprise

Camera phones were lifted to catch a repeat

Which was never where they thought it would be

The whoosh of released air

As bystanders breathed out in collective delight

An Osprey ducked and dived

Plummeting down to the sea, barely breaking the surface

Before lifting its prize

You were there in my eyes

Shaping my perception

To the birth of another day

And then you were gone.
