A senseless fall

lossgriefnaturememorytimelove

A senseless fall

The maddening nature of it

Incomprehensible

Psychotic delusion

Alcoholic confusion

Mental fragility

Stealing him away

Blame is worse than sorrow

His, mine, yours

Madness is institutional

The sadness is familial

A genetic inheritance

Carried in secret pockets

Buried in bone marrow.

Colourless

Empty shells

Kneeling on hassocks

Heavy hearts

Draped over dead wood

Carved into pews and prayer stools

A solid support,

Nailed down

To keep the peace.

Manic preachers

With sticky beaks

Know nothing,

We were broken

Swept away in pieces.

I drove blindly

Journeys were made

But never recalled

Buttoned down emotions

Skirting the issue

Silently negotiated

Learned behaviors

Blindly followed

Performance memory.

A numb, cold summer

An ice-bright sun,

Nobody likes a funeral

Only a fool would say so

Flowers die for no one

Nobody wears a smile,

Poses with a corsage

Of white Lilies

For a family photograph.

Nobody likes a funeral

Few would ever want to go

Some wish they never had

Some believe they should

Have.

All will go

Eventually.
