Are there any secrets

losscitymusicmemorytimeidentity

Are there any secrets

Worth telling?

Once told, their consequence

Is lost.

Only in graveyards

Do they remain,

With nary a clue engraved

In the marble.

Do they really take them

To the grave?

Who would know

The dead don’t speak

Whatever the autopsy

Might say.

It is all a matter of interpretation

Did Lazarus have a story

Never told

Perhaps he knew the lie

Of secrets and withholding,

The folly of things left unsaid

Bowed heads and silent prayers

Of resurrection.

Graveyard etiquette

Carried over into life

For fear of exposing

The truth of loss

As something more important

Than secrets found

Within the words

So rarely said and barely understood.
