What do you see
naturecitypoliticstimeloveidentity
What do you see
In the shallows
Of this still pond
Barely worth the trouble
Of navigation
Its lifeless depths
Dull in comparison
To the light in your eye
Narcissus was godly
But too consumed
In self-absorption
To realise his love
Was more than an echo
How did you know
There was more
To me than this
When truth
Lay hidden so deeply
From itself
Even if
This hotchpotch
Of ungodly
Existential psychology
Is a tenuous approach
Toward recognition
Self-indulgence
Is still an honest response
To the progress
Of my diversion
What did you see
To hold the attention
When in truth
My inner core
Is more than easily
Revealed
As self-interest
Or am I amiss
Tell me river elf
How it is
You deem to know
This dark reflection
More intimately
Than I have ever
Known myself.
