The Slipknot's Shadow

griefnaturelovemortality

How do you do it

Take that step

Fall into darkness

No turning back

Lift me up

Drip me dry

Hanging from a hook.

Tie a rope to the rafters

Dangle there waiting

For your child

To come home and find

Their heartbreak

Did you change your mind

Too late.

I weep for you

Beneath a tree

Where the wild berries grow

Juicy and red

How does blood flow

So freely at the end

Draining away

Into the soil

Stained dark

A forever mark

Mingled with sweat and fear.

How do you do it

When no one is near

And slipping away

Is unseen.

What might have been

Is an unasked question

On trembling lips

Never kissed

Since the falling.

Trees are blameless

But leave a tall shadow

Whilst slipknots are

Never to be forgiven
