I lay me down
I lay me down
Weathered by rain
Scoured clean
Only to be swamped
In thick mud
As sodden turf lifts
To engulf me
Drifting slowly
As the waters rise
Ungrounded I float
Between trees
Brushed lightly by bowed fern
Dipping in unison
Like the cooling fans
Of Eunuchs
In the lands of the Pharaohs
I am but Godlike
Carried by Wood Nymphs
Rubbed gently
Against mossy banks
Following an old path
Through the dark wood
Where Naiads danced
In moonlight
There is no fear
Even as the waters tumble
Over jagged clifftops
Cascading as a trillion
Diamonds
Falling from
An unseen heaven
Splashing onto a sandbank
Scattering grains
High into the air
I do not care
As the sea reels up
To claim me
A willing sacrifice
To the gods Hypnos
And Morpheus
Let loose the flaming arrows
Set fire to the boat
Let it be
More than just a dream
Unto another world
Of mourning
