If I only had words

naturepoliticsmemorytimeloveidentity

If I only had words

What could I do

To convince you

Of my sincerity?

When, in fact

If you just want sweet things,

It is all too easy to

Rummage around in the biscuit tin

And pull out a really nice

Chocolate coated bunny,

Something funny,

A sugar coated rhyme

Put together

In no time.

But it is harder to find

A verse to convey

Real meaning.

One that might evoke

A memory.

Write a message

For the soul.

Fill it up

With a lovers kiss

To warm the heart.

And help it live...

...As it breathes

In the smell of salt,

Drifting in the air,

Floating in the breeze,

Is picked up by the

Canvas of the sail

and nurtured by

silence.

No sound

To speak of,

But the rush of water

As the bow cuts through

A clear blue sea.

The splash of

A playful dolphin,

And the occasional

Flap of the spinnaker,

The sun high in the sky.

Nothing on the horizon

But a heat haze,

Such good days.

Remembered

With smells and images,

Prompted by truth,

Nudged into life

With a lovers touch.

Words, used

For picture building,

May be a good thing

But to look deeper

We need to give words air,

And that takes

More than empty promises

Of weeping angels,

Full moons,

Or conjoined hearts

Painted in the sand.

It demands honesty,

Blood and blisters,

Sweat and tears.

Reality,

Not a treatise.
