It is easy to believe

naturemusicpoliticsmemorytimesolitude

It is easy to believe

That all the good stuff is

In the past

Which is not strictly true,

But it is

More or less

As most of what is likely

Has already happened

At least once

Not that it should impact progress,

As forward,

Is more than a direction

It is a moral imperative

And the only way to travel

On a night bus.

Magic and Mystery

Are the very best kind of

M&Ms

With or without aspiration

It is better to be mindful

Of inevitably.

Thankfully (in many ways)

It just takes the smell of scotch

To take me higher

It used to take a real effort

For my legs to give way

Not so hard now.

Over the years

The price of falling down

Got cheaper

Even when sober.

In the shower

I stand on one leg

It’s not Tai Che or Flamingo

But it helps with coordination

Left-right brain connectivity.

Balance has always been important

Why would it be any different now?

Being alone

Can be a lifestyle choice

But there is safety in numbers

For a reason

Even the Lone Ranger had Tonto.

I board my door

Against the broad

In the next apartment

She has designs

On my body

She tries to paint them on my skin.

Whenever she can

Moves to rub me down

With her masseuse's hands

I worry I will melt

As a different piece falls off every day.

If my eyes fall out

I would get blind drunk

Every night.

Perhaps next time

I should let her in

We can get high

On the smell of an empty bottle

The rattle of a can

Write trash-talk poetry

And sing bawdy songs

Until the kids who have work

In the morning

Knock on the walls

To demand

A little bit of peace

And quiet.
