Lay down to sleeping

lossmusicpoliticsmemorytimemortality

Lay down to sleeping

There will be no weeping

Too much has gone

The shedding of life

The shredding of it.

Do not wake

Do not suffer the indignity

Of injustice

The morning is not yet ripe

For the picking.

Lay thee down

Mark the crossroads

With your bones

Designate a wish

Give it once to me

As I will give to thee.

The slow murder

Of old songs,

Tuneless lies.

There is little bravery

In taking lives

It is all too easy.

Lay me down

Put me in the ground

Alongside you

It is where I want to be.
