Nothing shouts louder

lossnaturecitymusicidentitysolitude

Nothing shouts louder

Than silence

An amplitude

Of ultrasound

The wings of a Butterfly

The scrape of a soul

Escaping its pain

Through the crack

In a paper-thin membrane

Origami nightmares

Shadow puppets

Mouthing obscenities

In throwback

Ventriloquists are dummies

In reverse

Ear canals

Flooded with

Silverfish

At high tide

Sound barriers

Are seldom broken

Until the aftershock

Passes through

Dog whistles blow

At the wrong frequency

To isolate the senses

And the volume

Of silence

Is slowly rising

With the anxiety

Of summer rains

In the dead of winter

Hushed irritants

Songbird tinnitus

Washing away

The noise

Of a new day

Lost in a flicker

Of light particles

Bursting through

The patches

In a weather-worn sky
