One more breath

naturecitypoliticstimemortality

One more breath

Blows the wind

Stirring an ocean coloured sky

Salt tossed clouds

Wild as running water

Turbulent air

Scouring the dirt from

Between old men’s toes

Walking the streets in pyjamas

Early onset

An age-old problem

A night on the tiles

For sleepwalkers

As prisoners of conscience

Rattle in their cages

At the injustice

Of natural phenomenon

What a carry-on

For the right to bear witness

Disaster follows

Ambulance chasers

When the cart is before the horse

Stand to attention

For the anthem

If you please

It brought too many people

To their knees

To be free

Of any sin

The stone is cast

In so many different directions

By the violence of the storm

Find safe refuge

Until the clearing

Is complete

High waters will subside

The wind will fall

On the other side of morning

There will be release

Of tension

At the mention

Of a parting

The rage will ease

With one last breath

The end will come.
