Open wide thine eyes

naturepoliticstimemortality

Open wide thine eyes

They are too distracted

By the colour

Of so many bright lights

Split asunder

And refracted

Through a rheumy

Film of tears

Scant protection

Against the blinding

Realisation that the sun

Will always rise

Just as long as

Someone waits

To see the dawn

Wide eyes are blinkered

By the passage of thine own life

To see through the haze

Of indifference

It gathers at the margins

Of global corporations

Celebrating

Profit share

As pollinators die

There is no reason

To alter the result

Of this projection

A climate of rejection

Is the way forward

For the old fossil

Who fuels

The furnace

Turns a coal face

Into a stone cold stare

Down into the abyss

Partially filled

With the bodies

Of the naysayers

Soothsayers

And apologists

Who put their greed

Before the need

To rebirth the world

Future proofing

Against the looting

Of this earthly treasure

For the pleasure

Clear bright light

Fresh clean air

Would bring

To the lives of

The children

Of our disunited

Nations
