Sensitivity is a concept

Misunderstood

In the interchange

Between boon or a blight

Given freely

As a gift

It exists in a bubble

Of empathy

Otherwise it becomes a burden

To the soul

With a self-indulgent

Tendency

Toward bloating

The Ego floating

In self-absorption

A bottomless ocean

Surrounding a paradise

Of fools.

Overly sensitive to

Critical examination

Hurt is opened too easily

Wide is the rift

Between us

When the raw

Bruise of sensitivity

Is exposed without

Negotiation or

Reciprocation

Self-care is an embrocation

Used sparingly

But to be self-aware

Is a greater source

Of support

To the needy

Both within

And without.
