Slip away

naturememorytimelovemortality

Slip away

Disappear

Into the tall grass

They let it grow here

To protect the anonymity

Of wildlife

They keep it short in Australia

Afraid of what might lie hidden

Close to the ground

Just a step away from the footpath

Come away

Retreat beyond the copper beech

Where the elm trees grow

Walk in the shadows

Dapple down your soft skin

Covered in freckles

Highlighted by the silken sun

Filtered through arbours

Never were they man-made

Settled in repose

Arboreal statuary

Perfectly formed to reflect

The beauty of the day

Come away

Walk among the wildflowers

Drift betwixt pastel

Coloured pollen grains

Floating as dust motes

Spiralling in sunbeams

Linger in the shade

Of an ancient Oak

Creased with the wisdom

Of ages

Lie atop the camomile

Make daisy chains to pass the time

Whisper ‘He loves me’

As you finish the count

Then say it again

Just for fun
