There are things

lossgriefnaturemusicpoliticsmemory

There are things

Which defy explanation

Leaning back with hands

In the sand

Closing curious

Sensitive fingers into a fist

And finding a pendant

Sorely missed

Lost a few days before

What are the chances

Of something like that

But they do occur

Without a word of a lie

Strange things do ensue

In the by and by

Did you catch a glimpse

Of a star

As it fell from the sky

See a lightning strike

Or a grown man cry

Kiss someone

For the very first time

And know

Without asking why

You had found love

Did you see

The split

In the trunk of a tree

When the wind

Took a branch

Way out to sea

A frantic bird found its nest

With the eggs still intact

Kept them warm until they hatched

And they beached

Were found by her mate

He gave them all the food

That he ate

Regurgitated

Kept on going

Until she was sated

They reared those chicks

As sure as sticks is sticks

And eggs is eggs

She was given a pendant

A St Christopher

He had found on the sand

But she lost it

On a flight

Between today and yesterday

In the by and by.
