An etched pen-and-ink illustration with a red accent, evoking "There is lightness".

There is lightness

losscitymusictimeloveidentity

There is lightness

A transparency

Something wonderful

And yet it frightens me

With its otherness.

In the opaque atmosphere

Clinging to me like molasses

To a wooden spoon

Sweet and sticky,

The finest threads

All too easily fray,

And beauty slips away.

A paper lantern

Drifting ever higher

Until it is gone.

An image of loss

I would rather not see.

At the extreme edge of reason

I wait for you

Or do I hold you back.

What is left

That is not done

But to breathe love,

To rise and fall

In equal measure.

Hearts beating

Barely keeping time

But the sound they make

Together

Is never silenced,

And continues to echo

In every word uttered

When love

Is the heart of the soul.
