This was not the piece I had in mind for today's missive

This was not the piece I had in mind for today's missive

But when out walking the following words came together

And on return just tumbled onto the page

With a nod to Bob and John.

I talk out loud

Even when walking

It is strange

The act of speaking

As a demonstration of existence

Not as communication

But self-verification

Living alone is a world within a world

Where silence evolves

In concert with

Life as pandemonium

Even silence

Is painful on the ears.

Perhaps had I never spoken,

Never heard a word,

I would miss conversation less

I doubt it…

Most of what we say is hidden

In a glance

A shrug of the shoulders

Twist of the mouth

Clench of the jaw

Shake of the hips

Tap of the foot

I miss seeing those things.

The nuance of life

Is in its sharing

The inanity of a visual joke

A play on words

The instant of mutual recognition

Caught in the moment

Lost in translation

With the registration

DOCILE

And wondered whether it would change to

ACTIVE

When it moved

You needed to be there.

Even as I wrote that

I wondered if the English army

Had just won the war

When you lose

The one you love

A best friend

Intimate confidant

It leaves a hole

Too deep to fill

Isolation

Is crowdfunded

To keep it hidden

Desolation a row

Of old farts

Waiting for the right time

To swear out loud

Before they forget

What the words mean
