What have you done

citypoliticstimeidentity

What have you done

To warrant my trust

When all is said

You are little more than

A story to frighten

Children

Into believing

That truth is a saviour

Binding the meek

Into accepting a promise

In the hope

Their suffering

Will be rewarded

Where do you stand

When the strong survive

As the weak

Inherit barren earth

It is a plan

Too complex

For me to understand

How convenient

An explanation

Of spiritual vagaries

Shrouded in misery

Every apparition

Hailed as proof

When to question

Is to be heretic

Show me Thomas

Let his doubts be revealed

Hold me in as much regard

Never cast out

The curious

It is they who

Will provide an answer

It is no blasphemy

To be angry

With the possibility

Of deception

Acceptance is too easy

A position to adopt

Change is mine to make

It is not the province

Of another

Do not still my voice

Or threaten my resolve

To question

Is a human choice

To believe this

Is what moves us

Is all we have.
