What moves you

naturecitysolitude

What moves you

When a moment comes

How are you found

Do you wait

To be called

An obedient lackey

Well-trained pet

Secretly biting into

The feeding hand

When the lights dim

Filling pockets

With treats

Barely enough

To satisfy the sweet tooth

Always wanting more

But never asking

Do you rebel in the privacy

Of a voting booth

Voice an opinion

Or follow the tidal flow

Become a fanatic

Of the rhetoric

Riding a populist wave

Do you stand alone

When your conscience

Demands

Are the weakest of us

Safe in your hands

Do you listen

To the smallest voice

With a begging bowl

And a lack of choice

Or do you see them

As dirt on your shoe

Not the same as me

Or you

Are you not moved

By their plight

Are they the blight

On an otherwise

Serene existence

Do you fear their persistence

The strength of resistance

They show

To stay alive

When they are moved

To survive
