What of significance?
What of significance?
Why should we care
What we do,
Who we are
Or what legacy
We may leave.
When it can take
A million years
To form an Island.
Rising from nothing
Out of the sea,
A volcano,
Thrusting skyward,
Bursting into existence,
Announcing itself,
Demanding to be noticed,
White hot and avaricious
Greedy for life
And oxygen.
Suffocating all
That stands in its way,
Before tiring
Of the ease
With which,
Once it tried,
It gained a foothold
In the world.
Nothing can prevent it
No sacrifice
Will stay its course
There is no victory
No defence
And so,
Insouciant,
It sleeps.
Cooling for a while
Collecting itself
Preparing for a return
In its own good time.
It barely simmers,
Suppressing rage
Deep within
Its fiery chambers,
Power unimagined
Untamed creation
A wonder of
Ordered chaos,
Benign destruction,
And with little ceremony
Or by your leave
It will forever
Leave its mark,
Indelible
Eternal.
It has significance,
And puts the
Affairs of man
Into proper perspective.
