With a nod to Kerouac
naturemusicdrumming
With a nod to Kerouac
And Charlie Parker.
Somewhere
Over there
Behind the tree
A window high up
Tangled
In branches
Overlooking the canal
A guy played a cool blue horn
The music drifted by
On the air
Like a mystery
Without a solution
My resolution
Was to wait
Him or her out
Even though
The grass was damp
A frog jumped onto my shoe
I guess he was as taken
With the tune as me
We listened together for a while
Until he saw a fly
And hopped off
Perhaps he was a jazz freak
On the side
But he really liked flies.
I wondered if the guy playing the horn
Knew the frog was a fan
And fish were jumpin’
To the beat
Either that
Or they too were
Catching flies
And I was the only one
With an ear for jazz
On the towpath
In the rain.
