Even now

Even now

I sit out in the cold

My toes exposed

Doing a crossword

Writing a line

Spending time

Turning blue

It reminds me

Of going to the beach

As a kid

The whole village

Together

Playing cricket in the rain

Eating meat and potato pies

Sausage rolls and tuna sandwiches

Crowded into

A beach tent

Or a chalet.

The adults

Playing rummy for pennies

Whilst the rain fell

Listening to the waves break

Waiting for the sun

To shine.

Playing silly beggars

In and out of the showers

But staying there

Until the day was done

Regardless.
