You lied to me

lossnaturecitymusicpoliticsmemory

You lied to me

There is no Santa Claus

Fairies will not die

With no belief

They will just stay away

There are other worlds

Imaginary friends

Hide in shadows

Waiting for the right moment

To reappear

You lied to me

The climate of denial

Is heating up

The clamour for change

A thorn in the side

Of the executive

Can I take your powers

Emasculate

The interest invested

In perpetuation

You lied to me

The myth of the Easter Bunny

Dispensing sweet things

Free of charge

If we play the game

Keep searching

For the golden egg

Which is an artifice

We are not children

For all eternity

Pile up your dead

Stoke the fires

Of the smoke pits

Fill your pockets

With the dirt

Of the earth

Dream of a better place

Which only existed

In childhood

Even as metaphors

Were barely founded

In the stories of our fathers

Told at bedtime

A world of oysters

Pea-green boats

Billy goats

In need of a gruff word

Frogs in flying helmets

Driving cars

You lied to me.
