July 9, 2022Poem

You were never more beautiful,

naturepoliticsmemorytimelovesolitude

You were never more beautiful,

Memory flares in recognition

The soft folds of summer

Enveloped in the warmth

Of a blissful moment

As the variegated leaves

Of a thousand trees

Shimmer in sunlight

So many shades of incandescence

Brighter than a supernova

Nothing is forever

Until time is stretched

Beyond the point of breaking

When distance has no meaning

As an arbiter

Of separation

All is contained as much as excluded

In a thimbleful of pleasure

Nothing lies between us

The air a whirling sea of change

As makes no difference

To the firelight in your eyes

Which stabs me through the heart

Every time I think about it

The grass is never greener

Than it seems

As it grows around you

Proudly springing up to touch your face

Freckles scattered like pollen

The empty field, as full of life

As a world could ever be

And I would be nowhere else

But to be with you

In this vast Sargasso sea

For all of my remaining days

If not forever.
