Did you really

Watch from the shadows

Afraid to be seen.

Were you aware

Of the impact

Lack of concern had

On the process

Of development

The probability is

An observer will

Interfere with an outcome

Shape it, mould it

According to their own

Self-image,

Like it or not.

It would be nice

To know

You cared enough

To be seen

Rather than to believe

I was alone.

To be watched over

Has its drawbacks

Elements of control

A kinder way,

A benign presence

With nothing but good intentions

Might ease the progress

Of life.

Parents are gods

To children

So powerful an influence

On the formation

Of a good self

To feel ignored

Or worse,

Abandoned

Can wreak a whirlwind

On wellbeing.

The godhead

Has a lot to answer for

In absence

When faith

Is all we are asked to hold.

Hope is the final

Preserve

Of the lonely heart

In need of succour.

A rumour of interest

Is not enough

Once the moment has gone,

What is felt

At the time

Will always remain

As under-appreciated.
