Hard choices.

politicstimeidentity

Hard choices.

When disappointment

Feels like a virtue

It is so easy to forget

How it feels to succeed

Wary of false promise

Too afraid to believe

Success is ever deserved

Defeat a default

More familiar than euphoria

Nothing is a given

Hard work

May not bring its own reward

Ask the bonded slave

The sickly in a land of plenty

It is a lie told by

Those who found a way

To break the system

For themselves

Until they climbed a ladder

Pulled it up

Behind them

Like a drawbridge

Well perhaps some do

But for the most part

It is not true

Good people deserve

All the plaudits

They receive

What kept them going

Was a modicum

Of self-belief

Confidence that was shaken

But not destroyed

There is no failure

Just experimentation

Never repetition

Without revision

A piece of good fortune

Need not be decried

A helping hand denied

Perseverance underrated

Or timing,

Underestimated
