There is no way back
lossnaturememorymortality
There is no way back
No matter how marked the trail
Crumbs eaten by thieving Magpies
String snagged on branches
Snapped on the razored edge
Of a jagged stone
Thrown up to cause a stumble
There is no stillness
At a subatomic level
Everything is in motion
We never cross the same ocean
Once lost
How do we find our way
Out of the spiral
Designed to contain
The essence
Of our imagination
When every turn
Leads us further
Than we ever were
Before the end
There is no wonderland
Alice doesn't live here
Anymore than that
Which has no intention
Is destined to remain
In the dark
Leave no mark
Other than a stain
On the character
Of an observer
Who, no matter what
Might yet occur
Will never deign
To intervene.
