What do you see

musicmemoryidentitymortalitysolitude

What do you see

When closing your eyes

And the void is illuminated

By the images

Of a billion impulses,

Sending messages

To and fro.

An endless flow

Of information

With little to say,

Unless you twist it,

Make an interpretation,

Rather than be left

With nothing

But an empty screen.

Do you create a universe,

Imagine other worlds

And ways of being.

Journey with them,

Travel for ever,

Without losing sight

Of getting anywhere.

Who do you see

When no one is there.

Do you slip

In and out of shadow,

Every thought

Teetering on the edge

Of darkness.

Hide between the back pages,

Idle over yesterday,

Look for pieces that stay missing,

Never to be found.

Even when stars burst

And new light shines,

Flooding the world.

Eyes wide open

Still refuse to see what will be,

Until truth lies exposed

Before them.

But who do they follow,

How will they know,

When everyday is a struggle

To see what lies

Behind the lids

Of their own closed eyes.
