What is darkness
What is darkness
But an absence of light
Is there anything more to it than that
There is little hope
Within its depths
No crack or gleam
Dampening its despair
It is invisible
There is nothing to see
No flower or bloom
Of colour
What may not be seen
Is no longer there
Are all objects
Subject to impermanence
Do they exist only
In theory
Unless they appear
Or because they occupy space
A cat in a box
An ice cube
A clear glass pane
Visible only when marked
Or impure
Breathed upon
Coloured in
Are we the light
To splinter darkness
Do we fashion
A universe
To keep its absence
At bay
What happens when
We fade
Our radiance
Moth eaten at the edges
Gathering gloom
Do we succumb
To a final absence
Are we transformed
Into a rainbow
Caught inside
A perfect crystal prism
Is our shadow
More than meets the eye
Where does it go
As it too
Slowly disappears
Melting
Into darkness
Where it will sit
Blindly, waiting
For a light source
To be revealed.
